In case you missed it, it was reported yesterday that President Trump’s personal secretary, Madeleine Westerhout, was fired for “making indiscreet remarks about his children.”
But if you’re a candidate, that’s not the part you should pay any attention to. This part from a wire service account is…
“Westerhout’s comments reportedly came during an off-the-record dinner with journalists and White House staffers.”
She also reportedly told the President she “was drinking a little bit” when she said whatever she said.
Your lessons…
1.) Nothing – NOTHING – is off-the-record with reporters, even if they say it is, if the story is juicy enough. And sometimes even if it’s not.
2.) There are no friends in DC. It may have been a fellow White House staffer who ratted her out. As the saying goes, “If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.”
3.) Loose lips sink ships. And alcohol has a tendency to loosen the lips. Be extremely careful what you say at any event where a couple drinks are involved. And never – NEVER – tweet under the influence!
Ye be warned.
